Phulbani, Ap 28: Kandhamal police have arrested Parameshwar Nayak, a District Account Manager working under the National Health Mission (NHM), for allegedly defrauding people by promising jobs in the health department. Parameshwar, who previously held a similar post in Deogarh district, is accused of taking money from job-seekers under the pretext of securing positions in various hospitals and health facilities.

According to the police complaint, while serving in Deogarh, Parameshwar allegedly collected substantial amounts of money from young men and women in exchange for promises of employment as supervisors, attendants, and sweepers in hospitals. From 13 victims, he reportedly collected around ₹15.6 lakh, with individual amounts ranging up to ₹1.3 lakh.

Despite receiving payments, the promised jobs were never provided. Victims alleged that Parameshwar would delay responses and make excuses, effectively evading them while keeping their money. Following his transfer to Kandhamal district in November 2025, Lakshmipriya Behera, a resident of Kurad village, filed a formal complaint at Deogarh Adarsha Police Station against him.

Based on her complaint, the police conducted an investigation and arrested Parameshwar on Monday, forwarding him to court. The case has been registered under sections 318(4), 296, and 351(3) of the BNS Act, case number 143/2026 at Deogarh Adarsha Police Station. Police are continuing the investigation to identify any other accomplices involved in the fraud.
