Dhenkanal, August 15: Yet in a shameful incident, a self-proclaimed Baba allegedly raped a married woman in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
He fled from the mutt where the victim was reportedly engaged for assistance in puja rituals on Friday after she lodged complaint with police.
The incident took place in the Mathakaragola village under the Kamakshyanagar Police, last Monday, according to the complainant.
The accused has been identified as Baba Madhumangala Das, a local of the Mathakaragola village.
According to the complaint lodged with the Kamakshyanagar police, Baba Madhumangala had appointed the married woman to help in the mutt’s puja activities. However, he engaged her in his hotel named ‘Gobinda Bhojanalaya’ as a help. Meanwhile on Monday, the Baba raped the woman while she was fast asleep at her room provided to her inside the mutt.
Following the incident, the survivor shared her ordeal with the Sarpanch, who helped her lodge a complaint with the police in this connection.
Based on it, the Police registered a case, initiated an investigation and visited to the mutt to apprehend the Baba. However, he had fled somewhere to get rid of legal action.
The victim was rescued from the mutt and sent for medical examination. Further efforts are underway to nab the accused as soon as possible, said the Investigation Officer.
