Gunupur, June 12: Former Gunupur MLA of Rayagada district, Ramamurthy Gamango, passed away at the age of 76. He died while undergoing treatment at a hospital early this morning.
Gamango had been suffering from hypertension and diabetes. Due to deteriorating health, he was first admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar two days ago and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment. He breathed his last at around 3 am in the hospital, sources said.
In his political career, Gamango served as MLA twice. He was first elected from the Janata Dal between 1990 and 1995. Later, he again won the Assembly seat from the BJP during the BJD-BJP alliance period between 2000 and 2005.
