Bolangir, June 2: In a major anti-corruption development, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of former Additional Tahasildar of Deogaon Tahasil in Bolangir district, Rajendra Choudhury, in a bribery case.
According to Vigilance officials, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir, on Tuesday convicted Choudhury in a case registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. He was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant for issuing a transit pass in Y-Form.
Following the conviction, the court sentenced Choudhury, who has since retired from service, to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.
Odisha Vigilance stated that it will move the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of pension benefits of the convicted former Additional Tahasildar in accordance with the applicable rules.
