Balasore, June 17: The Fisheries Department has imposed a temporary ban on fishermen from venturing into the sea in Udaipur, Talsari, Ramnagar, and Kirtania due to rough sea conditions caused by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.

The restriction will be in effect from June 17-19.

Continuous heavy rain and strong winds have made the sea turbulent, prompting the department to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of fishermen. Chandaneswar Fisheries Officer Ananta Jena informed that warning sirens and awareness campaigns have been launched in coastal areas under Bhograi block, where four major fishing landing centres are located.

Fishermen have been advised to secure their boats, nets, and fishing equipment in safe locations, as there is a high possibility of boats capsizing due to high waves and strong winds. The department has warned that any violation of the sea entry ban will lead to strict action.

The alert comes as part of a broader safety protocol to prevent accidents during adverse weather conditions. The department urges all fishermen to cooperate and stay away from the sea until conditions improve.
