Subarnapur, Dec 2: The much-awaited regional Dhanu Yatra Mahotsav has commenced in the Shandha Padia village of Biramaharajpur block in Subarnapur district, celebrating its first-ever year with grand fervour and enthusiasm. The seven-day festival, organised by the local Kural Samaj, has entered its fifth day, attracting large crowds who are eagerly enjoying the cultural performances and celebrations.
The festival, a vibrant display of traditional dance, music, and drama, has transformed the village into a hub of cultural activity. On the fifth day, the stage is set with performances from local artists, showcasing various folk dances and songs. During the night, the visitors enjoy the lively performances.
The first evening featured a dramatic reenactment of Devaki Vasudev's marriage and the legendary story of Shunyavani. The play portrayed the arrest of Devaki Vasudev and the dethronement of Ugrasen, who was removed from the throne and replaced by his son, who then assumed the royal crown.
The Dhanu Yatra Mahotsav, known for its unique and engaging performances, has long been a major attraction for locals and visitors as well, and this year’s regional edition promises to bring together even more enthusiasts. The festival not only showcases traditional Odia cultural performances but also draws attention to local art and theatre forms, enriching the cultural fabric of the region.
The organisers are hopeful that this event will grow in the coming years, attracting more visitors from across the state, and potentially even from outside Odisha, to witness the rich cultural history of Subarnapur district.
