First Group of Indian Students Evacuated from Iran Arrives Home
A special flight carrying 110 Indian students evacuated from conflict-ridden Iran landed safely in Delhi on Thursday morning, bringing immense relief to anxious families. The students, including 90 from Jammu and Kashmir, were brought home as part of a coordinated government effort to ensure the safety of its citizens amid escalating regional tensions.
The evacuation was facilitated through Armenia, where the students were first shifted before boarding the flight to India. Upon arrival, emotional scenes unfolded as families were reunited with their children. "I am very happy. I cannot express in words how happy I am to be finally able to meet my family," said one of the returning students. He described the situation in Iran as "very bad," adding, "War is not a good thing. It kills humanity."
Families praised the Indian government and the embassy in Tehran for their successful efforts. "My son was doing an MBBS in Iran," said a father who had travelled from Rajasthan. "I am happy that my son is returning home." However, he also voiced concern for those still awaiting evacuation, particularly in Tehran, where logistical challenges remain significant.
As the conflict intensifies, India has increased its efforts to protect its nationals. The Indian Embassy has issued advisories urging citizens to avoid unnecessary movement. With Iranian airspace closed, India has secured assurances for safe passage through land borders with neighboring countries. Over 4,000 Indian nationals, nearly half of whom are students, reside in Iran. The government continues to coordinate with Iranian authorities to facilitate the safe and swift exit of all those who wish to return.
