Cuttack, May 17: In a tragic incident, a 60-year-old man was electrocuted after coming in contact with a live power line that had fallen in a field in Kushapangi village under Banki block of Cuttack district.
The deceased has been identified as Gandharva Ghadei, a resident of Harijan Sahi in Kushapangi. According to reports, the incident took place early Saturday morning when Ghadei was on his way to inspect his paddy field in a low-lying area. Unaware of a fallen electric wire in a neighboring field, he accidentally slipped and came in contact with the live wire, leading to his death on the spot. No one was present with him at the time of the mishap.
Later in the morning, other villagers discovered Ghadei’s body and alerted authorities. Officials from the electricity department and Banki police reached the site and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Tension prevailed in the area as angry residents of Harijan Sahi staged a protest by blocking the main Banki-Cuttack road for nearly an hour, expressing outrage over the alleged negligence and delay in police response.
The blockade was lifted following the intervention of Dompada Tehsildar Baishakhi Lenka, Sub-Divisional Electrical Officer Soumyaranjan Mahapatra, and Banki Police Station IIC Dilip Kumar Mardaraj Bhuinya, who assured the villagers of appropriate action.
