Delhivery shipping charges to rise from September 1: Will online shopping get costlier?

If you are planning to shop online during the upcoming festive season, delivery costs could become an important factor. Logistics company Delhivery is set to increase shipping charges for Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) brands from September 1, 2026.

Under the revised pricing, Express shipments will attract an additional ₹4, while Surface shipments will cost ₹2 more. For parcels weighing more than 500 grams, the overall shipping cost could increase by around 5–10%, depending on the shipment.

The additional charges will be levied over the existing delivery fees, which are calculated based on factors such as parcel weight and shipping distance.

D2C brands likely to feel the impact

The move could particularly affect D2C brands that sell products directly to consumers through online channels without relying heavily on traditional distributors or retail stores.

Brands such as Mamaearth, boAt and Wakefit operate through D2C-oriented business models. Since several such companies operate with relatively tight margins, higher logistics costs could put additional pressure on their expenses.

Businesses may either absorb the additional cost or pass some of it on to consumers through higher product prices or delivery fees.

Why are shipping charges increasing?

The revised charges come ahead of the festive shopping season, when e-commerce shipments typically increase significantly.

Delhivery has attributed the increase to rising logistics expenses, including higher aviation fuel costs, increased ground-staff expenses and the overall cost of operating its logistics network.

With the festive shopping season approaching, consumers could therefore see changes in delivery fees or product pricing across some online platforms.

The extent to which the revised shipping charges will affect festive-season online shopping remains to be seen.
