Cyclone Arnab: Odisha expects lesser impact but prepares all 30 districts, says Pujari

Andhra Pradesh is likely to bear the brunt of the impending Cyclone Arnab, while Odisha is expected to face a comparatively lesser impact, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Sunday. He added that the state government has made adequate preparations across all 30 districts to deal with any eventuality. “The severity of the cyclone is likely to be higher in Andhra Pradesh, with a lesser impact expected on the other side of the state, that is Odisha,” the minister said.

Bhubaneswar, October 25:Andhra Pradesh is likely to bear the brunt of the impending Cyclone Arnab, while Odisha is expected to face a comparatively lesser impact, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Sunday. He added that the state government has made adequate preparations across all 30 districts to deal with any eventuality.

Pujari said the depression that formed near the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal on October 23 has been moving northwards and north-westwards. The system is likely to make landfall between Visakhapatnam and Bapatla along the Andhra Pradesh coast.

“The severity of the cyclone is likely to be higher in Andhra Pradesh, with a lesser impact expected on the other side of the state, that is Odisha,” the minister said.

However, the government is awaiting the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) final forecast for greater clarity on the cyclone’s trajectory and potential impact. Pujari said the updated prediction is expected late on Sunday evening or early Monday morning.

“Notwithstanding the exact location of the landfall of the cyclonic storm Arnab, we have made adequate arrangements in all the 30 districts,” he said.

While the current assessment indicates a comparatively lower impact on Odisha, the government is maintaining its preparedness as the weather system evolves. The IMD’s next forecast will be crucial in determining the likely impact on the state and the precautionary measures required.
