Delhi University Elections 2025 sees 39.36% voter turnout as counting begins

New Delhi, Sept 19: The much-anticipated Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Election 2025 recorded a voter turnout of 39.36 percent as counting of votes began at 9 AM this morning at the Convention Centre in North Campus.

The final results are expected to be announced by evening.

As per reports, of the 1.53 lakh registered voters, 60,272 students participated in the election, resulting in a turnout of 39.36%.

While this marks a slight increase from last year's 35.2%, it still falls short of the 42% turnout recorded in 2023. A total of 21 candidates are vying for the four central panel positions.

Ahead of the announcement of the election results, the Delhi High Court has imposed a strict ban on victory rallies by the winning candidates. The court has instructed the Delhi Police, university authorities, and local administration to implement stringent measures to prevent any potential disturbances or untoward incidents.

Security has been heightened across university campuses to ensure law and order during and after the result announcement.

It is worth noting that this year’s presidential race is bringing women into the spotlight like never before, with candidates representing diverse backgrounds—from a farmer’s daughter in Rajasthan to a tour guide’s daughter in Bihar. Of the three major contenders, two are women: Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, backed by the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and Anjali, fielded by the SFI-AISA alliance. The third contender, Aryan Maan, is representing the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
