Ahmedabad/New Delhi, June 14: The death toll in the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad has reached 270, officials confirmed Saturday.
In response to the tragedy, the central government has constituted a high‑level multidisciplinary committee, chaired by the Union Home Secretary, to determine the causes behind the disaster.
Investigators continue to comb through the wreckage at the BJ Medical College hostel and canteen complex, where the London-bound Dreamliner (flight AI‑171) came down on Thursday. Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu announced that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has mandated “extended surveillance” over all Air India Boeing 787 aircraft.
On the social media platform X, Air India stated that it has completed one-time safety inspections on nine of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The airline confirmed it is swiftly working to finalize inspections on the remaining 24 aircraft, in compliance with DGCA directives. Air India’s current fleet includes 26 Boeing 787-8s and 7 Boeing 787-9s.
