Three More Terrorists Killed in J&K's 'Operation Akhal'
The major counter-terrorism exercise, 'Operation Akhal', has entered its third day in Jammu and Kashmir, with security forces neutralising three more terrorists in the Kulgam district. This brings the total number of terrorists killed in this single operation to six, marking a significant success in the ongoing efforts to dismantle the module behind the deadly Pahalgam attack.
A Sustained and Intense Encounter
The gunfight began on Friday in the Akhal forest area after a joint team of the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police launched a search operation based on specific intelligence. The operation escalated when hidden militants opened fire on the security forces. After an initial exchange, the operation was paused overnight before resuming on Saturday, when the first three terrorists were eliminated.
The encounter has been fierce, with sounds of blasts and firing continuing through the night into Sunday. One soldier has also been injured in the ongoing operation. Officials have confirmed that the terrorists belong to The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Broader Counter-Terror Push
'Operation Akhal' is part of a larger, intensified crackdown on terrorism following the April 22 Pahalgam massacre. It comes just days after the successful 'Operation Mahadev', which saw the elimination of the attack's mastermind. High-tech surveillance and elite forces are being used in these operations, which are being closely monitored by top commanders. This relentless pressure highlights the security forces' determination to track down and neutralize every individual connected to the terror network in the region.
