Berhampur, April 30: Police on Wednesday arrested a CRPF jawan, identified as G. Ayadi Reddy of Dakshinpura village, on charges of allegedly raping a young woman on the promise of marriage.
The accused was apprehended following a complaint lodged by the survivor. Investigating Officer SI Sophia Mishra got the accused medically examined at MKCG Medical College and Hospital before producing him in court. His bail plea was rejected, after which he was remanded to Digapahandi sub-jail.
According to the FIR, the accused had been in a relationship with the victim since 2003. The two had reportedly decided to marry and maintained close contact over the years. The complaint alleges that Ayadi stayed overnight at the victim’s house in January 2010 and later established physical relations with her in April 2016, promising marriage.
However, the accused allegedly cut off ties and married another woman. The victim further alleged that even after his marriage, Ayadi continued to call her to various locations and sexually assaulted her by threatening and intimidating her.
The complaint also states that on December 10, 2025, the accused abused the victim over the phone and refused to marry her when questioned. She further alleged that Ayadi and his wife verbally abused her and issued death threats if she tried to maintain contact.
Based on the complaint, IIC Kishore Kumar Samal registered a case and initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of the accused.
