Bhubaneswar, November 3: The Law Minister of Odisha, Prithiviraj Harichandan has said that repairs will be undertaken on the Meghnad Pacheri, the grand boundary wall of the Puri Jagannath Temple, after cracks appeared on the centuries-old structure.
This iconic 12th-century shrine has recently shown signs of structural wear, raising concerns among devotees and temple authorities alike.
Reports indicate that wastewater from Ananda Bazaar, a marketplace within the temple premises, has been seeping through these cracks, causing patches of algae to form on the wall’s surface. A temple servitor mentioned that the issue of water leakage has persisted since 2021, but no substantial repair efforts have been initiated.
Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Arabinda Padhee also informed that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and technical experts have inspected the Meghnad Pacheri and that essential restoration will begin soon to preserve the structural integrity of this revered monument.
