Boudh, May 31: In a major embarrassment for the police department, a reserve constable was arrested for allegedly smuggling ganja in the district. The accused, identified as Nidhi Sahu, was apprehended by Boudh police.
According to sources, Sahu was transporting ganja on his motorcycle when police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted him at Barakuda Chhak under Adarsha police station limits. During a search of the vehicle, officials recovered nearly 10 kg of ganja.
Police have taken the accused into custody and launched a detailed investigation into the case. Efforts are also underway to ascertain the involvement of other persons in the illegal trade.
Amid a reported rise in ganja smuggling in the Boudh region, police have intensified enforcement and stepped up action against narcotics trafficking.
