Bhubaneswar, Mar 12: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday inaugurated the Bharatpur Police Station building under the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate. The event was attended by Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das, and Bhubaneswar North MLA Sushant Rout.
DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi, Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Panda, CMD OPHWC Santosh Bala, Addl CP Awinash Kumar, and DCP Prateek Singh also graced the inauguration ceremony.
The Bharatpur Police Station building stands as the state's first of its kind, symbolizing modernization and progress. Spanning over an acre of land, the iconic three-storey structure was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 4.50 crore, boasting an 11,400 sqft built-up area. It is designed with cutting-edge smart building solutions to optimize operational efficiency and enhance public service delivery.
What distinguishes it from traditional police stations is its focus on being people-friendly. From landscaped lawns to a selfie point, reception area, waiting lounge, and even a crèche for visitors with children, the station offers a welcoming environment. Essential amenities like drinking water facilities and separate toilets for male and female visitors are provided.
For the convenience and safety of women and children, there are separate desks, a counselling room for victims in distress, and tactile and ramp access for persons with disabilities. Additionally, the station features an interrogation room, conference hall, and CCTNS network for efficient investigations.
Safety measures include surveillance cameras, firefighting systems, and lightning protection. Modular workspaces have been provided for officers, along with facilities like malkhana, VHF, CCTV control room, and separate male and female hazats. A modern pantry, staff barracks, and separate restrooms for officers further enhance functionality.
This modern infrastructure exemplifies how forward-thinking design and technology can transform traditional institutions into citizen-centric spaces. It underscores the commitment of the Odisha government to provide efficient law enforcement services to its citizens.
