Bhubaneswar, April 29: A carpenter was critically injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon by unidentified miscreants during a robbery in the Mancheswar Kalikhama area of Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night. The victim, identified as Sanjay Maharana, has been admitted to a hospital with multiple injuries on his back and hands.
According to sources, Sanjay was returning home from Patia after work when three bike-borne assailants intercepted him near Patia railway station. The accused, reportedly riding a black Pulsar, threatened him and demanded valuables. Before he could react, they looted two mobile phones and Rs610 from his wallet.
Despite his repeated pleas, the attackers assaulted him with a sharp weapon and fled the scene. In a bid to save himself, the injured victim managed to escape and ran into a nearby field.
On being informed, police rushed to the spot, rescued the victim, and seized the motorcycle used in the crime. A probe has been launched to identify the accused and ascertain the motive. Police are also scanning CCTV footage from the area as part of the investigation.
