Tripura, Aug 13: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday, successfully foiled an infiltration attempt by 15 Bangladeshi nationals along the international border in Tripura, while state police apprehended four individuals from the neighboring country on the outskirts of Agartala, officials reported.

A BSF spokesperson detailed the incident, stating that under the cover of inclement weather and poor visibility, the 15 individuals attempted to breach the border through the Paharmura Border Outpost area in Khowai district. When challenged by BSF personnel, the infiltrators tried to forcefully cross the border fencing. To deter the infiltration, a single round from a Pump Action Gun was fired, causing the Bangladeshis to retreat to their side of the border.

In light of ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, the BSF has heightened surveillance and security along Tripura’s 856-kilometre border with the neighbouring nation. The spokesman also noted that the BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are conducting joint patrols to enhance confidence-building measures and improve coordination between the two border security forces.

Inspector General Patel Piyush Purusottam Das of the BSF (Tripura Frontiers), along with other senior officials, is actively visiting the border areas to closely monitor the situation.

In a separate incident, acting on a confidential tip, the police arrested four Bangladeshi nationals in the Nandan Nagar market area of Agartala. The police officer stated that these individuals had entered Tripura through a clandestine route a few days earlier. Initially, the detainees claimed to be Indian citizens. “However, after interrogation, they admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals,” the official disclosed to the media.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdul Kalam, Kamrul Jaman, Nabir Hussam, and Md Jubayer, all residents of Chapainawabganj district in Bangladesh.
