Bhubaneswar, May 6: In a significant move, the West Bengal government has decided to remove the title 'Jagannath Dham' from the newly constructed Jagannath temple in Digha, following widespread protests from devotees.
The controversy began after the temple’s inauguration when the title was used in official documents, sparking strong resentment among followers of Lord Jagannath.
Prominent religious figures, including renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik, expressed their concerns over the matter. Pattnaik even reached out to the Puri King, urging him to intervene, emphasizing that only the Puri temple is historically entitled to the revered title of 'Jagannath Dham.'
This decision is seen as a win for the preservation of Lord Jagannath's spiritual legacy, as it helps maintain clarity and respect for the sanctity of the sacred title, preventing any confusion regarding its use.
