Berhampur, May 6: The Odisha government has greenlit a comprehensive makeover of the famed Taptapani Hot Spring in Ganjam district, launching a development project valued at over Rs 9 crore. The tender for the project has already been issued, paving the way for long-awaited infrastructure improvements at the popular tourist destination.
Renowned for its natural sulfur-rich hot springs and tranquil spiritual setting, Taptapani has attracted thousands of pilgrims and travellers over the years. However, the lack of modern amenities has often been cited as a barrier to maximising its tourism potential.
The proposed facelift, spearheaded by the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC), aims to transform the site into a model wellness and spiritual tourism destination. Key upgrades will include improved landscaping, new changing rooms, walkways, eco-friendly shelters, and modern sanitation facilities. Authorities also plan to install interpretation centres and an efficient drainage system as part of a broader beautification effort.
The project’s vision centres on offering a seamless visitor experience while preserving the natural and cultural essence of the hot spring. According to officials, the enhancements will be implemented with an eco-sensitive approach to ensure minimal environmental impact and maintain the sanctity of the sacred waters.
“This development is a step towards positioning Taptapani not just as a tourist stop, but as a hub for wellness and spiritual rejuvenation,” said a senior OTDC official. “We are committed to blending modern infrastructure with Odisha’s traditional charm.”
Local communities are optimistic that the upgrade will provide a significant boost to the regional economy by increasing footfall and generating employment opportunities through tourism-related services.
Once completed, the rejuvenated site is expected to attract a wider demographic of visitors—ranging from domestic tourists and spiritual seekers to wellness enthusiasts—while highlighting Odisha’s rich natural and cultural heritage.
