Brown sugar racket busted in Puri, Three arrested

Puri, Aug 30: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trade, Chandapur Police on Thursday seized 157 grams of brown sugar and arrested three individuals involved in the racket from Jagannath Road in Bhailapur, under Puri district.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from Chandapur Police Station launched a raid in the area, during which a suspected drug dealer was apprehended. Upon searching the accused, police recovered 157 grams of brown sugar and cash amounting to ₹1,63,520.

Further investigation led to the arrest of two more individuals linked to the network. Police also seized a motorcycle, three mobile phones, and a knife from the accused.

The arrested persons have been identified as Pradeep Kumar Panda, Litu Pradhan, and Niranjan Parida, all residents of the Chandapur police limits.

Puri SP Prateek Singh confirmed the arrests and the seizure during a press briefing, stating that the operation is part of the district police’s ongoing efforts to curb the narcotics trade in the region.
