Indian boxer secures gold in Glasgow women's 70kg final

India secured its fifth boxing gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games when 23-year-old Arundhati Choudhary defeated England's Chantelle Reid. Competing in Glasgow, the talented athlete from Kota, Rajasthan, completely controlled all three rounds of the women's 70kg final on Saturday. She won the three-minute rounds convincingly to claim the top spot on the podium.

Historically, Indian female boxers had only managed to win three combined gold medals in previous editions of this global sporting event. This makes the current haul of five gold medals in a single tournament a remarkable achievement for the national boxing program.

Record Breaking Day For Female Boxers

Several Indian women paved the way for this historic success earlier in the competition. Preeti Pawar claimed first place with a dominant 5-0 victory over Canada's Scarlett Delgado in the 54kg category. Reigning world champion Jaismine Lamboria delivered an identical 5-0 score against defending champion Michaela Walsh from Northern Ireland in the 57kg division. Following suit, Sakshi Chaudhary defeated England's Ruby White 5-0 in the 51kg final.

Priya Ghanghas faced a much tougher fight in her 60kg final bout. She managed to edge out Canada's Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh with a close 4-1 split verdict to earn another gold.

Fans can anticipate even more thrilling action on Saturday evening. Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain is ready to compete in the women's 75kg final starting at 10:15 PM IST. Borgohain currently holds medals from the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Championships, and Asian Games. Winning tonight will allow her to join legendary boxer MC Mary Kom in an exclusive group of athletes who have secured medals across all five major international boxing events.
