Sambalpur, Aug 27: The body of the minor girl student, who was missing after jumping into Mahanadi from Chaunrpur bridge in the district, found near Athagarh in Odisha’s Cuttack district after four days.
Locals spotted body of a girl floating in Mahanandi near Kandarpur and informed police.
The deceased has been identified as Kajal Sahani, a class-9 student of Hindi Nodal High School. On August 24, Kajal came to Chaunrpur bridge and left her bicycle there. Locals who were out for their morning walk noticed her attempting to jump off the bridge. Despite their urgent shouts and efforts to reach her, they were unable to stop her in time, and she jumped off the bridge before anyone could intervene.
Due to water levels downstream in the Mahanadi River caused by the opening of the Hirakud dam's sluice gates, the minor girl was reportedly swept away by the floodwater, said sources.
