Bhubaneswar, July 18: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has intensified its protest against the Odisha government in response to the tragic self-immolation of FM College student Soumyashri Bisi. The party has announced to gherao all Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) offices on July 21.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the BJD headquarters, Shankha Bhawan, where senior vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra outlined the party’s next steps.
The BJD is demanding justice for Soumyashri’s family and is holding the state government accountable for the circumstances leading to her death.
This planned demonstration follows a previous protest on July 16, when the BJD gheraoed the Lok Seva Bhavan here. That event ended in a confrontation with the police. The party has also called for the resignation of the Higher Education Minister and a judicial inquiry into the incident, led by a sitting judge of the High Court.
BJD leaders have pledged to continue their agitation until what they term as "justice" is delivered to the victim’s family.
The press meet was attended by BJD leaders including MLA Gautam Buddh Das, former MP Pradeep Majhi, and senior general secretary Bhrugu Buxipatra.
