Bhubaneswar, May 9: Tension continues to prevail in Odisha’s capital after the brutal killing of GRP constable Soumyaranjan Swain at Balianta in Bhubaneswar. Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania on Friday assured that all accused involved in the incident would be arrested. While five persons had earlier been taken into custody, police later arrested two more accused in connection with the case.

According to reports, the victim woman belongs to Benupur village. Following a phone call allegedly made by her, several villagers, including her relatives, rushed to the spot where Soumyaranjan was allegedly assaulted. Police reportedly faced stiff resistance and heightened tension while carrying out arrest operations in the area. Fear of arrest has now gripped nearby villages, with many male residents reportedly absconding from their homes. Similar scenes were witnessed in nearby Balikantia village, located close to the crime spot, where many houses were found without male members present.

The family members of deceased constable Soumyaranjan Swain have rejected allegations that he had misbehaved with women on the road, calling the accusations completely false. They have demanded that the two women involved in the case undergo polygraph tests outside Odisha to bring out the truth.

On Friday, DGP Y.B. Khurania along with the Chairperson of the Odisha State Women’s Commission visited the crime scene and reviewed the situation.

Meanwhile, tension escalated in Soumyaranjan’s native village after his mortal remains arrived there. Locals staged a road blockade holding the police administration responsible and demanded justice for the deceased constable. Commissionerate Police have intensified raids at multiple locations to trace and arrest the remaining accused involved in the incident.
