Bhubaneswar: Burglar Who Looted Ex-Minister's House Arrested

Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: Commissionerate Police arrested the burglar who allegedly looted cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs 50 lakhs from the residence of former minister and senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik in Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar.

The accused, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police yet, was reportedly nabbed from Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada on Wednesday with the help of the local police.

Though the police are yet to reveal anything in this matter, sources said that the accused is being brought to Bhubaneswar on a transit remand. The cops have seized all the theft items from his possession.

It is worth mentioning that on the night of January 25, the burglar allegedly broke into the master bedroom of Patnaik's house at VIP Colony under Nayapalli police limits in Bhubaneswar. Thereafter, he reportedly stole cash and valuables, including gold jewelry worth over Rs 50 lakh, from the second floor of the building where Patnaik's elder son Devjyoti Patnaik and his family reside.
