Itanagar, Aug 8: A high-level delegation from the Arunachal Pradesh government, currently visiting Rajasthan, has expressed keen interest in the desert state’s ‘Jan Aadhaar’ scheme. This initiative, based on the “one number, one card, one identity” model, aims to deliver the benefits of public welfare schemes to eligible beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Led by Rajendra Sharma, Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh’s Planning and Investment Department, the delegation met with Naveen Jain, Rajasthan’s Administrative Secretary (Planning), to learn more about the Jan Aadhaar model. The delegation also visited the Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar Authority located in Yojana Bhawan.
Naveen Jain informed the delegation that the Jan Aadhaar scheme ensures the benefits of various schemes reach the real beneficiaries through a comprehensive database. This database plays a crucial role in identifying ineligible individuals, ensuring that public welfare schemes reach the intended recipients, thereby promoting women’s empowerment and financial inclusion.
Sitaram Swaroop, Joint Director of the Jan Aadhaar Authority, stated that 97 per cent of Rajasthan's population is covered under the scheme. This includes the enrolment of 2,02,43,526 families and the execution of 1,54,16,25,269 DBT transfers. A detailed presentation highlighted various aspects of the Jan Aadhaar Yojana and the challenges faced during its implementation.
The visiting delegation comprised Rajendra Sharma, Research Officer K. Paul, and Advisor CMO Soumya Chakraborty. They were provided with in-depth insights into the scheme’s objectives and operations.
The Rajasthan government describes the Jan Aadhaar scheme as a pivotal initiative aimed at creating a comprehensive database of demographic and socio-economic information for the state’s resident families. The Jan Aadhaar card serves as a unique identity for each family and its members.
An official document elaborates that the scheme ensures the benefits of various cash departmental schemes are directly credited to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts transparently. Additionally, it facilitates the delivery of public welfare scheme benefits to residents near their homes and provides e-commerce and insurance facilities in rural areas.
