After 1.5-day festivities, 24,631 Lord Ganesh idols immersed in Mumbai

Mumbai, September 15: Amid chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya”, as many as 24,631 Lord Ganesh idols, mostly from households, were immersed in various water bodies across Mumbai by 9 pm on Tuesday, marking the first immersion day of the 12-day Ganesh festival.

The festival began a day earlier, with devotees immersing idols after one-and-a-half days of prayers and celebrations.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, no untoward incident was reported during the immersions.

The civic body had made elaborate arrangements at immersion sites across the city, including artificial ponds, to facilitate the smooth and safe immersion of idols.

Large numbers of devotees turned up at designated immersion points to bid farewell to Lord Ganesh, with traditional chants and devotional fervour marking the occasion
