New Delhi, May 28: Amid a steady uptick in Covid-19 cases, the total active cases in India stand at 1,010 with Kerala and Maharashtra being the worst-affected states.
As per the state-wise data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Kerala and Maharashtra have seen the highest rise in COVID-19 cases.
Kerala has reported a total of 430 cases, with 335 of them being newly confirmed. Meanwhile, Maharashtra has reported 210 cases, including 154 new infections. Delhi is third, with 99 new cases, bringing its total to 104. Other states like Gujarat, Karnataka, Haryana, and others have also seen a rise in COVID-19 cases.
The Kalyan-Dombivli civic body in Thane district of Maharashtra on Monday reported its first COVID-19 death, as a woman died while receiving treatment. Four COVID-19 cases were also detected within the municipal area.
Out of the four cases, one woman passed away, another with moderate symptoms was discharged after treatment, a third is receiving care at a private hospital, and the fourth has been moved to Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital in Kalwa for further treatment.
The national capital currently has 104 active COVID-19 cases. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday assured the public that all city hospitals are fully prepared and there is no reason to worry.
“The government is fully aware of the rise in COVID-19 cases. Our hospitals are ready, and there is no need to panic. We are closely monitoring the situation,” she said.
The state-wise details of active COVID-19 cases are Andhra Pradesh (4), Chhattisgarh (1), Delhi (104), Goa (1), Gujarat (83), Haryana (9), Karnataka (47), Kerala (430), Madhya Pradesh (2), Maharashtra (210), Puducherry (9), Rajasthan (13), Tamil Nadu (69), Telangana (1), Uttar Pradesh (15) and West Bengal (12).
Notably, the rise in COVID-19 cases comes at the same time as the discovery of two new sub-variants – NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 – which are being closely watched by global health authorities.
Other Southeast Asian countries like Singapore, China, Thailand, and Hong Kong have also reported a rise in cases.
