Kashmir, April 9: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik from Jammu and Kashmir borrowed a famous line from Shahrukh Khan’s iconic movie Dilwale to make a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Malik used the Bollywood quote to express his dismay over alleged attacks by BJP MLAs and the National Conference’s silence in the face of his criticism.

Addressing the media after his heated exchange in the Assembly, Malik, quoting Khan's character Raj from Dilwale, declared, "Aaj hum sharif kya ho gaye toh yeh badmash ho gaye" – a playful spin on the memorable line from the 2015 film, “Hum shareef kya hue; poori duniya hi badmash ban gayi.”

In this moment, Malik was pointing out that while he remained composed and dignified, the BJP had resorted to ‘crook’ behavior in response to his criticisms.

The controversy began after Malik was allegedly targeted by BJP MLAs over his remarks, a move he strongly condemned.

During the assembly session, when things got heated, the MLA stood on a table to demand that the matter be brought up for discussion. The MLA, who was embroiled in a fiery debate with BJP lawmakers, also took a moment to criticize the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, calling it ineffective.

He expressed disappointment that important issues, like the presence of alcohol near religious sites, were not being properly addressed.

"The BJP ruled for years, and yet, no one thought about the alcohol shops near religious places like Mata Vaishno Devi. Why wasn’t it dealt with sooner?" he questioned.

Additionally, Malik turned his criticism toward the National Conference (NC), accusing its members of hypocrisy. For three consecutive days, he said, NC members had been disrupting the house, raising their voices on various matters, yet when it came to supporting him during his time of need, they remained silent.

"For three days, they were shouting in the house, but when something was said against me, there was utter silence," Malik lamented. His frustration was palpable, and he made it clear that he didn’t understand the party's stance.
