Suspended Odisha Officer arrested in ₹4,000 Crore Corruption Case

Jharsuguda, Sept 3: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Police on Tuesday arrested suspended Jamada Tahasildar Madhusmita Singh in connection with a multi-crore corruption case.

Singh, an officer of the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS), previously served as the Executive Officer of Belpahar Municipality in Jharsuguda district. She is accused of misappropriating over ₹4,000 crore in government funds during her tenure there.

The arrest comes days after the Revenue and Disaster Management Department suspended Singh, following a special audit that uncovered massive financial irregularities. The findings prompted the EOW to take over the investigation.

In an earlier development linked to the same case, Belpahar police had arrested Bibhuti Sahoo, the municipality’s accountant, for his alleged involvement in the scam.

The EOW is continuing its probe into what is being described as one of the largest financial frauds involving a municipal body in the state. Further arrests and revelations are expected as the investigation progresses.
