Sambalpur, June 18: Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across Sambalpur city for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the renowned Sital Sasthi festival, with police deploying 80 platoons of security personnel to manage the large influx of devotees.

Sambalpur Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said a comprehensive multi-layered security plan has been implemented. The deployment includes seven Additional Superintendents of Police, 21 Deputy Superintendents of Police, 46 Inspectors, and 106 Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors.

The SP said the festival commenced on June 14 and will reach its peak between June 18 and June 20, when thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the major rituals and processions associated with the annual celebration.

To ensure effective crowd management, police have coordinated with local pada committees and event organisers. Special traffic arrangements have been made, with designated routes for devotees and dedicated parking zones identified to prevent congestion and maintain smooth vehicular movement throughout the city.

Authorities have also arranged drinking water facilities at key locations for the convenience of visitors. Former officials with experience in festival management have been roped in to assist with the arrangements, while CCTV surveillance has been intensified across important junctions and congregation points to enhance security and monitor crowd movement.

According to police, a total of 33 marriage processions will be held across the district during the festival, including 28 within the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation area. The celebrations will feature six grand baraat processions and 12 homecoming processions, making this year's Sital Sasthi festivities one of the largest in recent years.
