Rairangpur, Mar 20: A 48-hour bandh has been called by the Mayurbhanj Adivasi Ekata Manch (Tribal Unity Forum) in protest against an alleged act of misconduct in the village of Binjhua, located under the jurisdiction of Tiring Police Station in the district. The bandh, which began today, has seen complete closure of offices, shops, markets, government and private educational institutions, as well as suspension of vehicle movement.
Protesters have been actively participating in picketing at key points in Bishoi, Rairangpur, Bahalda, and Tiring areas. The conflict escalated after an incident where a young tribal girl was allegedly subjected to misconduct by a member of the local community in Binjhua village. The incident, which took place recently, led to intense protests from the villagers, with the police intervening in the ensuing chaos. During the protests, the police reportedly used force to control the crowd, which further fueled public anger.
The conflict also saw violent clashes between the police and locals, leading to major disruptions in the region. As per the information available, the incident occurred when a minor girl from Meghray village, who had come to visit her aunt during a holiday, was allegedly harassed by a local man named Ismail's son near the village school while withdrawing money from the government welfare center. Upon hearing her screams, villagers rushed to the spot but the accused managed to flee before being apprehended.
In response to the incident, the villagers have gathered near the accused's house and started protesting, calling for justice for the young girl. The situation remains tense, with authorities seeking to control the growing conflict in the region.
