Jajpur, June 23: Panic gripped a family in Chandukuda village under Dasarathpur block of Jajpur district after as many as 23 cobra hatchlings were rescued from their house by members of Snake Helpline.
The incident occurred at the residence of Gouranga Jena. According to reports, Jena spotted a small snake moving inside his bedroom on Sunday night. When he attempted to chase it away, the snake raised its hood and tried to attack, alarming the family members.
Suspecting the presence of more snakes inside the house, the family immediately informed Snake Helpline. Acting on the information, State Coordinator Pramod Sahu and his associate Jahangir Khan reached the spot and launched a search operation.
After digging up the mud floor of the house, the rescuers recovered 23 cobra hatchlings along with several eggshells, indicating that the snakes had recently emerged from their eggs.
Pramod Sahu said that the current season is conducive for cobra eggs to hatch and urged people to remain vigilant. He warned that even young venomous snakes can be highly dangerous and advised residents to maintain cleanliness around their homes and use mosquito nets while sleeping during the monsoon season.
All the rescued cobra hatchlings were later released safely into a natural habitat away from human settlements.
