Indian runners clinch historic relay gold in Japan today
Indian athletes secured their first track and field gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games when the women's 4x400m relay team crossed the finish line in first place. Kiran, Machettira Poovamma, Prachi, and Vithya Ramraj delivered an exceptional performance on Tuesday in Aichi-Nagoya. They clocked a winning time of 3:29.69 to claim the top podium spot. Bahrain followed closely to take silver with a time of 3:30.21. China settled for bronze, finishing the race in 3:31.02.
Vithya Ramraj enjoyed another successful day on the track. She previously earned a bronze medal in the women's 400m hurdles during this campaign. Her powerful run in the relay added a prestigious gold to her growing collection. India maintains a long, proud history of dominating the women's 4x400m relay at continental competitions, and this squad kept that powerful tradition alive.
Day 10 brought more celebrations for the Indian contingent across multiple sports. Neeru Dhanda became the first Indian woman to win an individual gold in the women's trap event. She scored an impressive 28 out of 30 targets. Sun Yunong of China won silver with a score of 26, and Hajar Abdulmalik of the UAE took bronze. Neeru also helped the women's trap team win a silver medal alongside Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer.
Track and field athletes contributed further to the daily tally. Gulveer Singh earned his third medal of the games, taking bronze in the men's 5000m race with a time of 13:32.75. The mixed 4x100m relay team finished third, and Pooja claimed a high jump bronze by clearing 1.84m. Boxer Narender Berwal also secured a bronze in the super heavyweight category.
