1,589 Govt schools in Odisha have no electricity, 114 schools lack toilet

Bhubaneswar, November 28: In an indicator of the state of school infrastructure in the State, the State Government told the Odisha Assembly on Friday that as many as 1,589 of schools are functioning without electricity connections while 114 schools have no toilet facilities.

School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond in written response to question Ramesh Chadra Behera at the State Assembly said that out of the 48,522 Government schools, there is electricity connections in 1,589 schools and toilet facilities in 114 schools.

“There is no electricity connections in 1,289 primary schools, 290 upper primary schools and 1o secondary schools in the State. Similarly, no toilet facilities are available in 86 primary schools, 22 upper primary schools, 2 secondary schools and four higher secondary schools,” Gond told the House.

The Minister informed the House that an allocation Rs 679.47 crore have been made for providing electricity connections and toilet facilities in these schools under the Samagra Siksha Abhiyan in 2024-25 FY.
