Cuttack, Sept 24: Highlighting Odisha’s glorious maritime past and rich cultural heritage, World Maritime Day 2026 was celebrated at the Odisha State Maritime Museum in Cuttack on Thursday.

Officials of Water Resources Department and the maritime museum participated in the programme and recalled the state’s historic seafaring traditions and overseas trade relations.
A sand art based on maritime heritage was showcased, highlighting Odisha’s rich maritime legacy. A poster exhibition depicting Odisha’s ancient maritime trade, navigational practices and cultural exchanges was also organised.
Besides, selected historical artefacts and antiquities from the state museum were displayed, reflecting various aspects of Odisha’s cultural and maritime heritage.
The celebration, aimed to create awareness about Odisha’s historic contribution to maritime trade, emphasised the importance of preserving its glorious heritage for future generation.
