Berhampur, June 10, 2025: A tragic case of electrocution in Malatentulia Nuasahi village under Polasara Police Station limits in Ganjam district claimed the life of a woman, while her father-in-law and mother-in-law sustained injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Namita Sahu, who was electrocuted while working in the veranda of her home. Her father-in-law, Abhimanyu Sahu, reportedly came into contact with an iron grill that had become live due to a snapped electric wire. In an attempt to rescue him, Namita and her mother-in-law also suffered electric shocks. Namita received a severe jolt and collapsed on the spot.
All three were rushed to the Polasara Community Health Center by local residents. Doctors declared Namita dead on arrival, while her father-in-law continues to receive treatment. Her mother-in-law also sustained injuries but is reportedly stable.
According to sources, the village had been without electricity since the previous day. A live wire from Namita’s house is believed to have come into contact with the iron grill. The electrocution occurred around noon, shortly after power was restored to the village.
Local MLA and Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources, Gokulananda Mallik, visited the hospital to inquire about the incident. Meanwhile, Polasara police have launched an investigation.
