Bhubaneswar, July 13: Tikhiri Sarpanch Chameli Ojha on Monday began an indefinite hunger strike at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar, demanding strict action against Mahakalapada Block Development Officer (BDO) Rabinarayan Acharya and Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Manas Mallik.
Ojha alleged that she faced harassment and injustice during a recent visit to the Mahakalapada block office and said she would continue her protest until action is taken against the officials concerned.
According to Ojha, she was allegedly assaulted and verbally abused while visiting the block office to discuss development-related issues. She also claimed that her mobile phone was forcibly snatched during the incident. Seeking legal action and justice, she launched the indefinite hunger strike, urging the authorities to intervene without delay.
She said that she had already informed the senior officers of the state government for immediate action.
The protest has attracted the attention of social activists and political observers, who believe the incident reflects increasing friction between elected grassroots representatives and government officials. Police personnel have been deployed at the protest site to maintain law and order.
The episode has also reignited discussions on accountability in local governance, with several voices calling for a fair and transparent inquiry into the allegations and greater protection for elected public representatives.
