Bhubaneswar, July 13: A Class 11 student died after falling from the 10th floor of an apartment building in Bhubaneswar on Monday afternoon while reportedly visiting a female friend.

The deceased was identified as Rafan Khurshid, a resident of Laxmi Sagar. He was studying in Class 11 at ODM Public School, while his father works for a private bank.

According to Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena, Rafan had gone to his friend's apartment on the 10th floor of the building. When the girl's mother returned home, he allegedly hid inside the bathroom. However, when the girl and her mother later checked the bathroom, he was no longer there.

Preliminary findings indicate that Rafan may have attempted to leave through the bathroom window and accidentally fallen into the building's plumbing duct from the 10th floor. He sustained fatal injuries in the fall.

Police said there is no evidence at present to suggest murder or any other foul play. Describing the incident as a tragic accident involving adolescents, the DCP said the exact circumstances are still being investigated.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the incident.
