Weather alert forces fishing ban across Odisha’s Northern coast

Balasore, May 28: Fishermen have been barred from venturing into the sea at Udaypur, Talsari, Ranasinghpur and Kirtania in Balasore district due to rough weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal. The Fisheries Department has imposed the restriction for May 28 and 29 in view of heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorm activity.

Chandaneswar Fisheries Officer Ananta Jena said strict action would be taken against fishermen violating the advisory issued by the department.

Under Bhograi block, four fish landing centres remain on alert as the sea is expected to remain turbulent because of adverse weather conditions. The Fisheries Department has launched awareness drives through public announcement systems in coastal areas, warning fishermen not to venture into the sea during the period.

Fishermen have also been advised to shift their boats, fishing nets and other equipment to safer locations to prevent damage from strong winds and rough sea conditions. Officials warned that boats may collide due to high wind speed, posing serious risks to life and property.
