Dehradun, June 30: The popular ‘Char Dham Yatra’ in Uttarakhand resumed on Monday after the 24-hour suspension, which was imposed following a heavy rain alert, was lifted.

Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey confirmed the development.

He also mentioned that all District Magistrates along the Yatra route have been told to control vehicle movement according to the weather conditions in their areas.

As per reports, the pilgrimage was temporarily halted due to relentless rainfall and heightened risks of landslides in Uttarakhand.

Notably, the temporary suspension was put in place on Sunday as a safety measure to protect the lives and property of pilgrims and local people due to bad weather. Authorities advised pilgrims to stay where they are and not travel to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, or Yamunotri until the weather improves.

The suspension came after a strong cloudburst near Silai on the Barkot-Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district, which caused at least nine road workers to go missing.

At least two workers have died, and seven others are still missing after a powerful cloudburst. The incident happened near an under-construction hotel in the Silai area on the Yamunotri National Highway, where a campsite with 29 workers was washed away.

While 20 people were rescued, nine went missing. Later, it was confirmed that two people had died. The search for the remaining seven is still ongoing.

The Yamunotri National Highway was blocked at several points near Silai Band, causing major disruptions. Authorities at NH Barkot were notified to handle the situation, and the debris was cleared.

In other parts of the state, the National Highway near Nandprayag and Bhaneropani was also blocked due to debris, while the Sonprayag-Munkatiya road in Rudraprayag, an important route for Kedarnath pilgrims, was closed because of landslides.

Heavy rain continues to affect many districts, including Chamoli, Pauri Garhwal, Dehradun, and Rudraprayag.

As rivers rise close to their banks, the administration has issued a new advisory, asking people living near rivers to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
