Bhubaneswar, September 8: Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta on Tuesday inaugurated first-ever State-Level Special Handicrafts Exhibition “Utkalaa: Shri Ganesh” at Ekamra Haat here. The exhibition will continue till September 13.
A total of 34 artisans from 16 districts were participating in the exhibition, with 33 stalls having been set up. The exhibition will remain open from 11 AM to 9 PM.
Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Secretary Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, along with other departmental officers, graced the inaugural event.
“Utkalaa” is a brand that is an endeavour to give a new identity to the rich tradition of handlooms, textiles and handicrafts of Odisha. It is a powerful platform to bring the creativity, traditional knowledge and unique craftsmanship of the skilled artisans of our State closer to the people.
Through various state-level fairs and exhibitions organised under the Utkalaa brand, the State Government is directly connecting artisans with customers and creating a wider market for their products. This is helping to increase the income of artisans as well as strengthen the local economy. The core idea of Utkalaa is to “adopt local products and support local artisans.”
The philosophy of "Utkalaa" is aligned with the vision of “Vocal for Local” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat”.
Under the “Utkalaa” brand, the theme of the exhibition is “Shri Ganesh”. Ganesha idols, Pattachitra and Ganesha artworks made from various materials such as clay, wood, stone, terracotta, paddy, coconut coir, brass and bell metal, along with Ganesha artworks made on palm leaves, have been showcased at one place. Keeping the upcoming Ganesh Puja in view, the exhibition has been organised for both sale and display.
