New Delhi, May 1: The United States has urged both India and Pakistan to ease tensions following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, while expressing strong support for New Delhi’s counter-terrorism efforts.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held separate discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stressing the need for peace and stability in South Asia.
During his phone call with Sharif, Rubio called for Pakistan's cooperation in the investigation of the April 22 attack, which claimed 26 lives. He described the assault as "unconscionable" and emphasized the importance of accountability.
Following his conversation with Rubio, Jaishankar posted on X that the "perpetrators, backers and planners" of the Pahalgam attack must face justice. Rubio, in turn, reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting India in its fight against terrorism.
