Puri, Oct 28: Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb on Tuesday urged President of the ISKCON Temple, Houston, Texas in the USA to put the unusual and unscriptural Snana Yatra and Rath Yatra proposed in the city on a hold.
In a letter the Gajapati has requested the ISKCON authorities USA to postpone holding the Snana Yatra proposed on 3rd November & Ratha Yatra on 9th November.
In his letter, the Puri king has mentioned that the Rath Yatra is organised as per the tithis sanctioned by scriptures and tradition, that is, from the 2nd day (dwitiya) of the bright fortnight (shukla-paksha) of the month of Ashadha to the 12th (dwadashi) or 13th (trayodashi) day of the bright fortnight (shukla-paksha) of the month of Ashadha.
He also mentioned that several rounds of discussion were held with ISKCON earlier on holding Rath Yatra as per the traditions followed in Srimandir.
The Janmasthami and Rath Yatra must be celebrated universally in accordance with scriptures and tradition, the letter read.
