Chhatrapur, May 27: In a shocking case of medical malpractice, a man with education only up to Class 10 has been illegally running a private clinic in Sana Aryapalli village under Bada Aryapalli Panchayat of Chhatrapur Block for the past 3 to 4 years. Operating near Gandhi Chhak, the individual has been treating patients without any formal medical training or certification, raising serious concerns about public health and administrative oversight.
Identified as Prasannajit Sarkar, a native of Kolkata, the man reportedly worked in Madhya Pradesh before relocating to Odisha. He has admitted to running the clinic without a medical degree or license, claiming he intends to obtain legal credentials in the future. Alarmingly, he has managed to secure local identity documents, including an Aadhaar card and voter ID, further embedding himself into the local community.
Despite lacking qualifications, Sarkar has been offering daily medical treatment, gaining the trust of residents in the absence of accessible healthcare. Locals say they often consult him first in times of illness, turning to Chhatrapur or Berhampur Medical only when conditions worsen. Several cases have reportedly ended in patients becoming critically ill or dying due to delayed or improper treatment.
Sources say Sarkar is not alone. Multiple individuals from Kolkata have allegedly settled in Aryapalli Panchayat, posing as healthcare providers. All have obtained local identity documents, raising questions about the effectiveness of administrative verification processes.
What’s more alarming is the inaction of the health department and local officials, despite the illegal clinic operating just 4 to 5 kilometers from Chhatrapur. The continued neglect has created a breeding ground for unqualified practitioners, putting the lives of innocent villagers at severe risk.
Locals are now urging authorities to take swift action before more lives are endangered at the hands of fake doctors.
