Jajpur, June 19: A unique wedding ceremony in a village of Odisha has attracted interest among villagers to invoke rain. A groom arrived in a decorated car, while villagers danced to DJ music during the wedding procession. The groom also joined the celebrations.
The procession reached the Siddheswari Maa temple in Gahmaria village, where the bride was waiting. The wedding was performed with Hindu rituals, but the bride was actually a man dressed as a woman.
The unusual “male wedding” was held in Gahmaria village under Bandalo Panchayat in Korei Block of Jajpur district. Villagers believe that this traditional ceremony can bring rain and remove bad luck.
The village has been facing less rainfall this year. Due to the poor monsoon, villagers decided to bring back this old tradition. A similar wedding was held around 25 years ago.
The ceremony took place on June 17. Jatin Khatua became the groom, while Kalandi Nayak played the role of the bride. The entire village helped organize the event.
The groom arrived with music, drums, and fireworks. Villagers danced and took the procession to the temple. The marriage was completed according to traditional customs.
After the wedding, villagers organized a feast near the temple and prayed for good rainfall.
