In a tragic incident, at least two construction workers were stranded inside soil in Odisha’s Sambalpur town after a trench caved in during excavation. The incident took place at the Bhatara area of the town under the Dhanupali Police Limit on Thursday.

Sambalpur, Jan 22: In a tragic incident, at least two construction workers were stranded inside soil in Odisha’s Sambalpur town after a trench caved in during excavation.

The incident took place at the Bhatara area of the town under the Dhanupali Police Limit on Thursday.

A worker, rescued from the scene has been rushed to hospital for resuscitation while operation is underway to pull another worker out of the debris.

According to report, a Rajstan-based construction agency was executing a sewerage network job in the Sambalpur town where a crew of workers were at work in digging soil for putting the pipes.Meanwhile, the walls of the trench caved in all of a sudden where as many as three workers were trapped under heap of soil.

On being informed, police and Fire services teams rushed to the spot and carried on a rescue operation.

Operation is underway and the health conditions of the trapped worker remain critical, said sources.
