Berhampur, Oct 30: In connection with the ongoing investigation into the murder of Berhampur-based lawyer Pitabas Panda, two legal experts have been appointed as special prosecutors to handle the case. Kali Charan Mishra, a senior lawyer and retired Additional Legal Advisor with the CBI, and Abhinash Padhi, a prominent legal figure, have been officially assigned to oversee the case’s proceedings and provide legal guidance.
The Berhampur Police wrote to the CID-CB DIG, requesting the appointment of these experienced professionals to ensure proper legal consultation and case management. The case, registered under the Bada Bazar Police Station (Baidyanathpur PS Case No. 518), includes charges under Sections 103(2)/3(5) of the BNS (R/W) and Section 25(1-B)/27 of the Arms Act, dated 06.10.2025.
Moreover, Kali Charan Mishra, the former Additional Legal Advisor to the CBI, has been appointed as the independent government prosecutor for the case, bringing with him vast experience in handling high-profile legal cases. Abhinash Padhi, an advocate at the Odisha High Court, has also been appointed as an additional independent prosecutor.
